Something about a cashmere crewneck sweater that calls every wardrobe. Comfortably pleasing to wear and goes with every layered and throw-on look. Siblings Andrea and Edouard Leret have idolized this wardrobe staple with their LERET LERET label, specializing in cashmere sweaters. The designers are developing cashmere sweaters with colorful designs through sustainable production. Maintaining the quality of the cashmere sweater with refinement, they explore techniques of cashmere sourcing, production, and design of their garments.
The Leret siblings fell in love with cashmere as children, where they often found cashmere garments in their parents' closets. Their dad who is French, and mom who is from Caracas, Venezuela, would introduce their sartorial taste to their children. The siblings recall, “[we] have always been attracted to cashmere since we were kids - going into our parent's closet regularly. But what inspired us the most was the potential of knitting graphics into the cashmere. Most cashmere is unicolor, this technology is fairly new.
The duo would discover and become inspired by the ability to knit graphics into cashmere, which is rare and create colorful sweaters. Edouard Leret's fashion career would allow him to work with brands like Alex Crane where he had hands-on experience with e-commerce and would bring a sense of lifestyle to the label. He lived in Asia for a time he built relationships with Mongolian manufacturers of wool, and from there the idea would be born.
“Most cashmere is unicolor [and] this technology is fairly new. We started to get to work in 2018 once we connected with Mongolia and got some samples back, we wanted to create a universal crewneck made to be worn by everyone, and we succeeded,”
says the Leret siblings.
They would spend the entire year branding and developing LERET LERET and launched the label in October 2019. The Leret siblings would work together remotely, Andrea spending the last five years residing in Mexico City, while Edouard would be between Paris developing LERET LERET and New York City, where a consultant would help the launch take place in the Big Apple. Launched on October 1, while Edouard was still in Paris, LERET LERET would open a pop on Elizabeth street in NYC, well before the pandemic.
