In the ever-evolving landscape of entertainment and fashion, one name stands out in the fast-paced scene of nightlife - Sean Dickerson. As the creative director of THE MADE Group, Dickerson has spent over two decades shaping trends and defining the social scenes of Hollywood and New York.
Originally from Baltimore, MD, Dickerson started in nightlife at 17 after moving to Los Angeles. His father, a playwright, and journalist, moved his family there, and a young Dickerson found himself working the door of a speakeasy before trying his hand at acting and studying film at university.
Dickerson recalls, “My first entry into nightlife started when I was 17, running the door at a speakeasy after hours in Atwater Village, a little LA neighborhood that sits between Silver Lake and Los Feliz. We stayed open until 6 am so that attracted an eclectic crowd of nocturnal types. We got everyone from A-list movie stars to biker gangs, to bartenders and strippers. It had a short run, but that was a wild time.”
“It wasn’t until my mid/late twenties that I started hosting nightclubs,” he details. “I came from a world of dive bars, mostly. There was nothing glamorous about them, even if glamorous people were frequenting them.” Sean has been similarly infiltrating the fashion industry but with more polish, making his presence felt at this year's New York Fashion Week (NYFW), celebrating fashion's evolution and the influence of hip-hop culture on the entertainment industry.
“The fashion world has always felt like an extension of the theater world to me, Dickerson describes, as a luxury dresser himself on the nights that he works. “[It’s] A very creative community that, at its core, rewards ideas and originality. It rewards pushing boundaries and breaking the rules. There’s a performative aspect to it, much like the theatre. I think we’ve embraced each other.”
Sean Dickerson's journey and contributions have brought him success in fusing fashion, music, and nightlife. At the heart of his accomplishments are his flagship creation, SaadiQ, an iconic party series that has become a magnet for A-list celebrities, and trendsetters in fashion.
The guest list features names like the Sean John apparel founder Diddy, who attended Dickerson’s New York Fashion Week event at Loosie’s at the Moxy Hotel in the Lower East Side, where other brands threw NYFW after-parties. Also in attendance at the SaadiQ party series over its existence are Drake, Doja Cat, Usher, Chris Brown, Cardi B, and Take Off, earning a mention on the song "Spin About You" by Drake and 21 Savage.
