Marina Testino Believes Everyone Should Have #TheGreenRooms And Eat Less Meat
by PAGE Editor
Marina Testino is on a mission for appreciation based on action. Too often people say they care about this issue or that matter, but don’t apply the principles of those issues and matters to their personal lives and invite these practices into their home.
Marina, advocate, activist, and the founder of Point Off View and Instagram challenge #OneDressToImpress, where she paraded in a single outfit, styled in a variety of ways to get the point across that fashion is a display of inherent style rather than it is a contest of consumption.
Now Marina is pivoting to home in showing us how to appreciate our planet as much as we do our fashion. Launched this week for Earth Day, #TheGreenRooms is a virtual activation that provides tips on how we can make our homes more sustainable during the quarantine.
Marina believes,
“It’s important for people to become aware of the potentially damaging things we're doing within our homes, often without even knowing. Spotlighting a different 'green room' each day helps us to break down the problem and take things one step at a time.”
As much of the world is still on lockdown, Marina is loading up exciting and simple tips on how we can re-envision the rooms in our home and make them more environmentally friendly.
Dissecting parts of our life, Marina has tips for making household cosmetics, using less plastic in the bathroom by switching to bars and sustainably made grooming accessories, to re-evaluating our closets and selling off your underserved garments. Testino is also encouraging plant-based diets, spending most of her time in her favorite room in the house, the kitchen.
On Sunday, Marina will be culminating #TheGreenRooms activation by looking outside of our homes and giving tips on how we can treat the outside world with the same level of respect as we do our homes.. As she highly recommends starting in the bathroom as there are lots of plastics to get rid of from our beauty products, she thinks it’s best to tackle the interim or designated “home office” as your starting point.
#TheGreenRooms will be an interactive activation with Marina inviting Instagram users to share their tips and ideas for lessening the environmental impact of their homes.
Here are some tips that we can think about now so we’re ready to implement them later on... See you outside!
1. Buy organic and at local food markets to support farmers.
2. Appreciate your time in nature and respect it.
3. Grow something, either in your own garden or through volunteering
4. Don't litter in nature *especially cigarette butts.
5. Bring your own utensils when picnicking instead of using plastic.
6. Take more public transport, walk and cycle.
7. Switch to driving electric and try to avoid just driving yourself drop people off on your way to work :) * Also make sure your tires are inflated properly: an under-inflated tyre considerably increases a vehicle's fuel consumption. avoid excessive braking or acceleration too.
8. Choose train over airplane when possible: a plane emits 300 times more carbon dioxide than a train for the same distance.
9. Take part in citizen science schemes to help scientists understand the world better, from measuring the air pollution in your local area to counting the number of butterflies in your garden (check out https://www.zooniverse.org/) 💚
