Jessi Highet Studio Launches In-House Home Goods Line And Redye-Recycling Service
By PAGE Editor
Jessi Highet Studio is a textile dye shop that specializes in unique application techniques to achieve illustrative effects for clients and projects. Using sustainable practices, quality pigment, and developing processes to repeat and perfect them are all a part of what we
strive toward and drive us forwards. Jessi Highet studied Interdisciplinary Design Concepts at Parsons and has recently been featured with her husband on the Today Show for their year-long marathon walking project.
The science and experimentation of dye is ultimately what brought Jessi to build her business and collaborate with clients to achieve one-of-a-kind colors and styles. Nina Bowers whom Jessi has known for a decade came to work for the studio in the last year to support the development of the business as it has grown and shifted with increasing demand and diversified interests.
Making Homewares Whole
Sustainability and minimizing waste have always been important causes to both Nina and Jessi and the rest of the JHS team. While JHS clients are primarily fashioned brands, Jessi and Nina always appreciated the quality that housewares and home goods add to a space, but were often left frustrated by the waste it can create. The EPA states that in 2018 over 1,520 tons of waste was generated from sheets, towels, and pillowcases alone- and of that only 240 tons were recycled. So they put their heads together and came up with two different models to address this particular issue.
Recycle Redye
The team at JHS has always enjoyed and prided itself on creating handmade custom pieces so with that in mind Nina with Jessi’s expert input created a form for customers to submit their used soft house goods to get a one of a kind dye treatment so that they may be revived and reused or repurposed. Customers currently can choose between 2 different color tones in combination with 2 different color styles and 1-4 dye techniques or patterns. Once the form is submitted customers will be sent an email with a quote for their item, then they ship it to the shop where it gets dyed and sent back to them.
Multi-Use Textile
Using her eye for design and fun bright colors Jessi has created a multi-use textile which can serve as a curtain/wall hanging, a tablecloth, picnic/beach blanket, or top sheet. The dye design along with the quality of the fabric sourced from a US mill combines a depth of texture and color to create a simple and beautiful item that can be used everyday. This versatile piece, currently offered in 2 styles and 2 sizes is intended to minimize the clutter of function textiles and add vibrancy and interest in whatever way it is used. These pieces are currently being sold on www.jessihighetstudio.com as well as Afternoon Light this coming Fall.
