Here Is A First Look At Rains Glacial Outerwear Capsule Collection

The Rains brand is known for making functional and effective outwear pieces suitable for all kinds of extreme weather. Their most recent SS21 show proved there are elements that we have to be aware of as we co-exist with a natural environment.
During Copenhagen Fashion Week, Rains streamed a “Digital Show” which highlighted how nature can reclaim itself among civilized architecture in modern society. Full rain-day inspired outwear displayed adaptability and protection against the weather.
RAINS Glacial is a new take on finding the perfect outerwear pieces to function accordingly for the young and stylish urbanite. The Glacial outerwear collection consists of a new fabric that Rains has developed. Utilizing a waterproof PU-wax on heavy-duty twill, this notion has become a signature of the brand creating a hard shell durable coat for the extremes. Each jacket is structured in a boxy, oversized silhouette engulfing the wearer.
Streetwear inspired and apart from the typical aesthetic of outerwear, Rains Glacial capsule collection combines the jackets' workwear-inspired edge with the brand’s durably designed surfaces. The collection takes what we have seen in popular streetwear trends and appends that to the heritage of the Rains.
This capsule’s lookbook was photographed by Danish fashion photographer Nikolaj Møller in the Copenhagen neighborhood of Amager, Denmark's most densely populated island. This happens to be the same island where Rains held its inaugural AW20 show, and where the land is split between residential architecture on the east and forest and fields on the west.
Glacial was designed with the idea of providing workwear for young urbanites engaging with modern cities while exploring nature. Casting models of varying young ages is the ethos of generations who have gathered through shared experiences, geographies, and kinship. This reflects the narrative of the island of Amager and what the people are familiar with.
Co-Founder of Rains, Philip Lotko, explains this campaign as the brand “has always been youth-driven... When casting the Glacial campaign, [we] worked hard to create feelings of a ‘chosen family’; focusing attention on building a group of young people who could gather together in their off-hours as neighborly next of kin. The ensemble transcends age, relying on shared proximity and the narrative of Amager, Copenhagen as home.”
The silhouettes of each jacket carry robust confidence. These boxy jackets and coats come in three colors, Black, Khaki, and Green as well as three different silhouettes that vary in the hemline. The Glacial Jacket, Glacial Parka, and Glacial Coat all have matching clothing sets to dive fully into the color scheme of your choosing.
Featherless insulation allows for solid construction of workwear archetypes. Each Glacial piece features taped seams that ensure waterproof protection in inclement weather.
It's not worth going into winter without a jacket - ever. But the Rains Glacial capsule collection is sure to keep you ready for the storm. The matte-like finish, the boxy silhouettes, the dark and earth-tones, and the ability to accessorize the look with matching garments are essentials for the winter seasons ahead.
The new Rains Glacial category of outerwear is out now.
