Afropunk is back in Brooklyn for another weekend of music, art, conversation, style, and a celebration of blackness around the world. Brooklyn’s Commodore Barry Park will host another festival dedicated to celebrating everything black and everything that it provides.
A place where people from all cultures and groups are accepted. Afropunk has harvested and a multitude of people who seek value in the arts. With clothing, art and food vendors, Afropunk has also been an advocate of black business and has provided platforms for artist, musicians, chefs and designers alike.
This year’s music line up involves music artist like FKA Twigs, Jill Scott, Goldlink, Chika, Leon Bridges, Rico Nasty, Toro y Moi, Junglepussy, to name a few and bands playing live music. Sounds involve contemporary R&B, Neo Soul, Afro Beats, Hip-Hop, Heavy Metal and other genres that will fill the air with vibes for all styles of people. Festival-goers will have plenty of performances on multiple stages to enjoy on the lawn.
Afropunk is also hoisting DJ sets by some of the most eclectic DJs in the world. Included in the line-up are Mike Q, DJ Moma, Rich Medina, DJ Doo Wap, and DJ Native Sun. An outstanding array of talent and taste to groove to this weekend, the DJ sets will fill the air while you dance, eat, laugh, lounge, and shop.
The Spinthrift Market is a communal space for designers to sell their designs directly to their audience. Brands that channel the spirit of the culture and embody the styles of the most radiant and bold characters of New York City. Spinthrift allows designers to make their brands visible to new costumers. Opening up opportunities to expand and prosper as small businesses.
The Afropunk festival is worldwide and brings people of all cultures together to enjoy culture rooted in the African diaspora. Since its beginning, the festival has grown in notoriety and turnout. This year should be one for the books and a weekends worth of entertainment.
